In 1947 the name Kievit is mostly found - as far as Zeeland is concerned - in the eastern part of Zuid-Beveland, in particular in the town of Kruiningen, and on the island of Tholen. The Kruiningen branch mostly consists of descendants of Willem Jan Kievit (Ouwerkerk 1805 - Kruiningen 1884) and his two wives Lena Hage and Klazina Blok. Willem had at least 19 children, 10 of which were boys.

The fact that Kievit was a common name in Kruiningen can also be seen in the 'alphabet of Kruiningen', which contains the line
